When upgrading a desktop’s memory should I put all the memory in one slot?

Question by Jack: When upgrading a desktop’s memory should I put all the memory in one slot?
I am looking to upgrade the memory on my desktop computer. It already has 512mb of ram in one of its two ram slots. The computer can handle a maximum of 1 gig of memory. My question is if I should remove the existing ram, and buy 1 gig of ram to put all in one slot or should I just buy 512mb of ram and it just put it in the second slot which would create a total of 1 gig
