Remote Desktop Software, also known as Remote Control Software or Remote Access Software is currently enjoying significant sales success and popularity due to increased awareness and its availability across all platforms, especially mobile platforms. These programs allow computers to make connections to other computers that are also running this software. Typically these connections take the form of a master and slave relationship, with one computer taking control of the other. Once control is achieved, the controlling computer will have a full screen representation of the accessed system on its display. At this point, the controlling computer will be able to operate the accessed computer as if they were seated in front of it. The beauty of Remote Desktop Software is that, beyond the software being installed, all that is needed for these sessions to work is an internet connection. In this article we will examine two situations and locations where Remote Desktop Software might be especially useful.

Home – The 21st century is quickly becoming known as the century where people started working from home en masse. This working from home, or telecommuting, is enabling millions of workers to save time and money on commuting and become more productive than ever, all from the comfort of their own home. Using Remote Control Software, a telecommuter can gain full access to a work computer. This offers advantages in that any software, proprietary programs or internal files can be accessed, and group collaborations can occur in real time. While working from home is now an incredibly viable option for many, it is the ability to directly connect with secondary systems that truly makes this working at home environment as, if not more, productive than working from the office.

The Road – For better or worse, as the number of telecommuters has grown, so has the number of workers who must do their work from the road as they travel to further their careers and businesses. Fortunately, Remote Access Software can be of great use to these individuals, as these programs can work from anywhere in the world. Many road weary workers have learned the benefits of these remote access programs first hand, as the software can often be responsible for getting these workers out of sticky situations. Let’s say that a worker has been on the road for a couple of weeks, giving presentations to potential clients. Through the course of travelling, they somehow manage to corrupt their data, and are faced with the prospect of having no presentation to give at their meeting which, of course, starts in just a few minutes. What’s even worse, is that they are on west coast time, and none of their co-workers have yet arrived at the east coast office. With a desperate need to grab a clean copy of the presentation, and nobody at the office available to email it, this worker is in serious need of help. Thankfully, all that is required of them is to use their computer or mobile device to log into their work computer, download the file, and go on to deliver the presentation without delay, or the client or potential client ever becoming aware of the situation.
