I go out of town and the most horrible company in the world – the server collocation facility that calls itself www.sandiego.bbb.org/commonreport.html?compid=7000253 – earns its reputation by forcing 18 hours of down-time followed by the announcement that the operating system on one of my web servers has been completely corrupted and cannot be repaired thanks to a virus that they somehow let infect their entire data center via their internal subnet that is intended to monitor against viruses. By the time my server was back on line, after I was informed that I would need to reinstall the database server and reconfigure IIS, I realized that the only chance I would have at sanity would be to move all of the websites hosted on the server at Aplus.Net to one of the servers I have hosted as Rackspace.
And so… I transferred 8 web applications and all of their database contents, changed the DNS entries, configured the application pools, attached the database files, and brought all the effected sites back online… with this phone. God bless this phone, and God bless Terminal Services.
