google uses a technique called indexing ,as u have index or contents in your book, when u type part of word it will use that indexing service and display result there. just click on your result to launch browser if results is frm outside your computer . or chance its setting to display result in browser frm options or preferences if any,

I just installed google deskto, but it does not work.
For instance, I named an excel sheet “Orders”, and then saved it on My Document. Then I searched through google desktop, and yield zero result.
Does anyone know why?

What would the search terms be if I wanted to find James Smith’s contact info but not any of the emails to, from, or about him?
I have too many “Others” to make browsing the “Others” section of my search results worthwhile. Even if I didn’t, I need a fast solution.

You can search for Outlook Contacts, they would appear in the “Other” section of your search results.
