Follow me on Twitter @iHackOSX The iMac comes bundled with the 10.6 version of the Mac OS X Snow Leopard operating system, as well as iLife ’11 (comprising the superb iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, and GarageBand applications). The latter is as good a starter set of media-centric programs as you’ll find with any modern desktop computer. The iMac also comes with a one-year limited warranty and 90 days of toll-free phone support. (An extended AppleCare warranty will cover your system for two more years; it costs 9 extra, and that upcharge was not factored into the cost of our test unit.) With a little new on the outside and a lot new on the inside, the 21.5-inch iMac continues to be our overall top pick for an all-in-one desktop computer. Dramatic improvements in CPU and graphics power send it hurtling to the front of the AIO pack, and its stylish design would fit perfectly in a living room as well as an office. Even though its improved graphics performance makes it a viable gaming machine, we’d like to see more entertainment features, such as an HDMI port or a Blu-ray drive. But as a productivity PC, the iMac is as powerful as it is beautiful.

Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) September 1, 2009
Macquarie Hosting, a division of Macquarie Telecom today announced that it has completed the upgrade of its entire data center network core. The network core upgrade will increase scalability across the business and improve Macquarie Hosting’s capacity to manage the faster network speeds Australia’s new NBN will deliver.
The network core upgrade is part of Macquarie Hosting’s overall investment of more than million in its Sydney data center, which hosts some of Australia’s leading business and government organisations including the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, PBL Media, carsguide.com, SBS and WebJet.
The upgraded network will carry more than one terabyte of data per second and will provide customers with increased scalability, improved reliability and greater capacity. It took 15 months to design, build, deploy and migrate its customers.
The upgrade is part of Macquarie Hosting’s strategy to ready the business for the increasing peaks in demand for managed server hosting services that Australia’s new NBN will deliver. It also builds on existing growth in the data and hosting business, which contributed .5 million to the organisation last financial year, up 18% on the corresponding period (ended June 30 2009).
“More and more companies are moving their business online to capitalise on the broad benefits that high speed broadband will deliver. As a result, there is a parallel peak in demand for managed hosting services,” said Aidan Tudehope, Managing Director, Hosting, Macquarie Telecom.
“Any business that has not already started to increase data center capacity or scalability to cope with that demand will face multiple challenges and long-term opportunity loss.
“Australian businesses have become increasingly savvy with the proliferation of broadband. They know that the sooner application hosting services are provisioned online, the sooner revenue is guaranteed so there is increased pressure on hosters to deliver smooth and reliable services more quickly. Today’s network upgrade enables us to meet that demand and stay ahead of the NBN curve,” Tudehope said.
