more importantly, newspaper articles from a period of time also work to demonstrate the changing story lines from the initial explanations to the latter explanations of the events drawing out the obvious inconsistencies and incompatibilities between different versions of the stories. if this is too much of a grasping of straws for you, you should be shocked to find out this is standard police interrogation technique, only this time applied academically on older sources.
