Question by brahmaputra_zarathustra: What’s the best & cheapest way to share a printer between desktop and laptop?
What’s the best & cheapest way to share a printer between desktop and laptop? My laptop connects via wireless router to same internet connection as my desktop (which uses same router and is already connected to printer and a local network.) My laptop, however, uses VPN and a different network. Would a splitter printer cable work to connect my laptop to the printer? It would be preferable for me to access the printer by using the existing wireless connection somehow. Any ideas?

If you happen to own a small establishment or a home industry that you manage by yourself, then you must have already been well-versed when it comes to handling your staff as well as your products. In most cases, you need to look out for details if you are running a small scale business. For instance, if you are involved in a small clothing industry, then it is important that you maintain the quality of your products. For a small clothing industry, the barcode of your products is more interesting especially if you can create a design on your own and that if you can also print the barcodes as well instead of contracting with a printing company which will add up to your production costs. To print barcodes, you need a dedicated printer to print the labels that you need.

There are two types of dedicated barcode printers which are categorized based on how they print the labels. The first one is the thermal transfer printer while the other one is the direct transfer printer. You do not need to get confused on which one is better than the other since they are both similar when it comes to their purpose as well as their operation costs.

On the other hand, you can also utilize the printer for other purposes such as printing of tags, wrist bands and so on. However, contrary to what most people think, you cannot use an ordinary printer to print the barcodes as well as do those other tasks mentioned above since they need different tools and technology to make it. On the other hand, there are also other types of printers that you can use and they include desktop printers, portable type, wireless printers and the list can just go on if we talk about printers. Thus, if you want to minimize your cost in printing a barcode, it is important that you choose a dedicated printer that can print barcodes as well as perform other functions that are commonly undertaken by common printers.

A dedicated printer is very suitable in producing a lot of barcodes that you need for your small business. Another advantage is that the price of the printers is very reasonable compared to larger and ordinary printers. Moreover, this particular printer is made from durable material that will simply last longer and can meet up with your printing demands.
