Question by Tinkerbell: Another name for desktop area of a Macintosh computer?
Ok, in my design lab class we were given a sheet of homework. One of the questions is “The desktop area of the Macintosh computer is also known as the _____.” The only things I can think of would be GUI or wallpaper, but none of those really seem right. I’ve looked through my notes and there’s nothing on the subject. Does anyone have any idea of what the answer might be?
Yes, I am in his class! I agree, this test sucks. Things are worded really weird :/

Actually, a desktop area is exactly this — the desktop… But I suspect they are asking for the whole window system, which in Mac OS X is called the Finder. (e.g. a Finder window with files, folders, Cover Flow previews, and a side bar VS. an application window).
(In Windows, this is called ‘Windows Explorer’.)
